Innovative strategies for promoting clinical scholarship: a holistic approach

Nursing teaching strategies must expand beyond having students gather information because this is not enough to produce competent nurses. Strategies that encourage critical thinking include incorporating the experience and background of the individual students into clinical teaching, critical incident cards with decision trees, preceptorships and mentorships, simulations to teach skills, student-selected clinical experiences, participation in nursing rounds, and concept mapping.
