Abstract: Hamburg Sud celebrates its 125th anniversary on Nov. 1996. The family-owned container line, which is undergoing reorganization to reduce costs and enhance efficiency, expects total sales revenue to remain stagnant due to increased competition in the German shipping industry. In line with its plans to expand worldwide, Hamburg Sud is considering a joint venture with competitor Hapag-Lloyd AG.
