Abstract

The diversity of type I modular polyketide synthase (PKS) is analyzed by using PCR amplification of DNA encoding ketosynthase and acyltransferase domains in myxobacteria. The sequencing of the amplicons has shown that many PKS genes are distantly related to the sequences, indicating myxobacteria to be excellent resources for novel and diverse polyketides.
