Abstract
- A redesign of Boston's Central Artery/Tunnel project saved $300 million in construction costs. In addition to the savings, the $14-million redesign will temporarily provide a place to cast immersed tunnel tubes and serve as jacking pits. Conceived by Maguire/Harris, the redesign improves the efficiency of the alignments. Jacking of two vehicle tunnels and a ramp tunnel also provide substantial savings in excavation costs.
