Abstract

The Philippines petroleum industry is undergoing deregulation over 12 months from April 1996. Government subsidies are being reduced, price controls are being removed and foreign investment is being encouraged. The Downstream Oil Industry Deregulation Act aims to move toward market pricing using Singapore crude prices as a benchmark. The Oil Price Stabilization Fund is to be abolished. Exxon and Mobil are among companies returning to the Philippines and The Petroleum Authority of Thailand is setting up service stations.
