Abstract

IgG hybridomas monoclonal antibodies show that the cells of Candida albicans have a dynamic growth phase-specific expression of cell surface antigens. The cells express the 5C11 and 2E11 antigens throughout their growth and in young hyphae. The terminal regions of the longer hyphae express the 2G8 and 4E1 antigens within three hours of hyphae induction. Growth in a medium containing galactose delays the expression of 2G8 and 2E11. The 5C11 and 2E11 antigens are present between the 68 and 104 kDa bands in immunoblot analyses, while 4E1 and 2G8 are present between the 117 and 104 kDa bands.
