Abstract
- Intermolecular interactions lead to the formation of structural units called synthons in crystals. It has been hypothesized that a lack of correspondence between molecular and crystal structures resulting from synthon interference could cause problems in the engineering of crystals. To test this hypothesis, the structural chemistry of a series of 1,4-disubstituted 2,3-dicyano-5,6-dichlorobenzenes and related compounds is determined.
