Abstract
- Th U.K. government's policy on adoption seems to be undergoing a substantial change, with the suggestion by junior health minister John Bowis that single expectant mothers give up their babies for adoption rather than have an abortion. The comments were welcomed by leading right-wing Conservative members of parliament, many of whom believe that single parent families are to blame for society's problems. However, some child welfare groups say that the remarks may be a sign that that the government's future policy on adoption is set to become more radical.
