Lithium ion salvation: amine and unsaturated hydrocarbon solvates of lithium hexamethyldisilazide (LiHMDS)

Nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopic studies of lithium hexamethyldisilazide (LiHMDS) with monodentate ethereal ligand solvation is reviewed to examine a similar solvation process but with monodentate amines. Disolvated monomer stabilization was attributed to high steric demands of splaying alkyl groups on trialkylamines. LiHMDS monomer stabilization exhibited behavior similar to hydrocarbon dependence involving oligomer distribution.
