Abstract

British girls are trained to be social and communicative while boys are trained to learn by trial and error, act rather than talk and receive instant gratification. A recognition of these social differences can improve teaching styles and reduce underachievement by boys through teachers adopting a mixed-ability teaching style and focusing on both the relevance and the challenge in the subject being taught. Boys need access to the oral and learning skills of girls for life-skills development.
