Matching problems occur in some types of assembly systems when overtaking reaches a level that substantially disrupts job sequence and variable processing times. The presence of synchronous components can be handled properly in assembly by using buffers of materials. The sequence deviation (SQD) is also introduced as a measurement guide to overtaking levels in the manufacturing process.
