Abstract

The ongoing reform experiments and the downsizing of administrative staff in schools threaten the career security of principals and assistant principals. Camille Sanders, a Michigan assistant principal whom the school management shifted to teaching duties without the mandatory 60 days prior notice, took the case to court. The trial court, in the light of two Michigan judgements, ruled in favor of the management. In a similar case in Indiana, the appeals court ruled that reassignment meant that the principal's contract was breached, even though the salary remained the same.
