Abstract

A three-dimensional, finite-element analysis of the Nb3Sn conductor joint design for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor's central solenoid has been carried out. Specifically, a model of a twisted superconducting cable was derived using ANSYS to examine the impact of material and geometric parameters on the dc resistance and eddy current heating induced by transient magnetic fields.
