Abstract

The ac transport and magnetic losses in silver-clad (Bi,Pb)SrCaCuO-2223 superconducting tapes fabricated via the powder-in-tube technique were measured at different frequencies, magnetic fields and currents. The results, which indicated that both losses are caused by hysteresis, revealed that external transverse magnetic fields reduce the critical current density and this, in turn, sharply increases the transport losses.
