Abstract

Transparent local area network (LAN) service has become the broadband driver of choice for delivering full multimedia service to homes and offices. Transparent LAN service, which supports client-server applications over the metropolitan and current business applications over the wide area, involves communication between Ethernet ports at a 10 Mb/s burst bandwidth over the wide area. The service will eventually result in a combination of LAN data, legacy voice and new video applications on a single delivery system.
