In vitro activation of the interferon-induced, double-stranded RNA-dependent protein kinase PKR by RNA from the 3' untranslated regions of human alpha-tropomyosin

A study was conducted on the efficacy of the protein kinase RNA-activated (PKR) cellular kinase in suppressing tumors. The effects of purified 3'untranslated region (3'UTR) RNA of human alpha-tropomyosin were also examined. Results verified that the RNA from the 3'UTR inhibits translation in a manner consistent with PKR activation. A direct interaction between PKR and Tm1-3 RNA was also discovered.
