Optimum location of an internal hinge of a uniform column on an elastic foundation

Abstract: The buckling of a column affected by both an internal hinge and an elastic foundation is studied analytically. It is found that the elastic foundation raises the buckling force, but nonlinearly. The optimum locations for the hinge are determined.
