Abstract

Kenneth Haslip, an athlete at the University of Southern California, has sued the Educational Testing Service (ETS) for breach of contract and defamation after ETS canceled his score for cheating. Haslip is asking for $8 million in damages, saying that, aside from experiencing mortification and shame, he also lost his scholarship and his eligibility to compete due to the incident. His score has since been reissued and his eligibility restored when an arbitrator found no substantial proof against him. A similar lawsuit has been filed by a football player from Mt. San Antonio College.
