Abstract: The synthesis of a compound featuring the terminally bound GaI ligand is described, whish has represented the first experimental realization of a valence isoelectronic group 13/group 17 analogue of CO and [N.sub.2]. The coordinative trapping of the GaI and its electronic structure are examined.
