Abstract

Strong leadership is vital to the success of any organizational change initiative. To become effective leaders, managers must learn to develop relationship power and to minimize their dependence on position power to get things done. Because relationship-based management involves employee participation and motivation, it helps boost employee commitment, loyalty, motivation and performance. Managers can develop relationship power by cultivating the key attributes needed to promote the change process. These attributes are creativity, team orientation, appreciation, accountability, coaching and listening.
