Abstract

A mathematical model suitably explains the heat transfer of thin liquid films in heat pipes' capillary-grooved evaporators. The heat transfer coefficient can reduce by 30% due to the solid surface roughness in thin evaporating film area. Grooved evaporators can hold high heat fluxes because the major portion of the heat flow is shifted to the meniscus region. The local evaporative heat transfer coefficient does not depend on the heat flux.
