Design method for daylighting

Recent advances in daylight calculation mean that daylighting is becoming an increasingly important part of energy efficient building design. The energy-labelling scheme BREEM now includes a daylighting requirement, and advises use of the average daylight factor, which can be easily calculated. Using the average daylight factor and following a four-stage sequence of design decisions allows architects to design the right size window .
