Abstract

Depression in children and adolescents appears to be associated with maladaptive patterns of attribution. Using a statistical technique, researchers found that depressive symptoms can be linked to internal, stable, and global attributions for negative outcomes, and to external, unstable, and specific attributions for positive outcomes. Results were consistent with the learned helplessness model of depression.
