Abstract

Novelist and politician Jeffrey Archer has managed through patronage to reach a position in which he is highly respected by many people. This is a reflection of the poor state of national consciousness in the UK, as in fact he is unworthy of such a position. His novels are badly written and in poor taste, but he has still managed to gain a prominent place in the popular imagination.
