Abstract
- The architectural critic Lewis Mumford brought a liberally educated and broad mind to the discussions of architectural design in the US. Mumford's own preferences were for ecologically balanced building design, including the design for his own home in Amenia, New York. He stressed the need for architects who were connected to their communities and their art, and who maintained a connection to the craft of building.<br />Lewis Mumford, one of the great architectural and cultural critics of this century, died in 1990 at the age of 94.
