End-1996 is Manila's goal

Abstract: The Philippines petroleum industry has yet to be liberalised. There are three major companies operating in hte Philippines in this sector. They are Shell (Pilipinas), Caltex (Philippines) and Petron, a local company that has been privatised. Gasoline prices are set at under international levels. A delay in raising prices could bring more serious political problems as well as economic problems. The petrochemicals sector also receives protection.
