Correctional officers: how do they perceive sex offenders?

Correctional personnel surveyed on their attitudes toward sex offenders tended to perceive these criminals more negatively than non-sex offenders. The officers' also viewed sex offenders against children more negatively than offenders against women, and believed that sex offenders were generally more mentally ill than other criminals. Additional training could aid officers in their management of these offenders.
