Potential cost-effectiveness of incentive payment programs for the protection of non-industrial private forests

A site-level estimate of the opportunity cost and non-monetized biological benefits of biodiversity hotspots conservation in Finland's non-industrial private forest is presented. The results hint that incentive payment programs may be more cost-effective than traditional, top-down regulatory programs.
