Abstract
- The authors presented a well-researched and thought-provoking paper about the risk of housing damage caused by expansive soils. Their observation that the problem has not been addressed by the civil engineering establishment is largely due to the fact that there have been few victims of expansive soil. Moreover, the slow process of foundation heave ensures that any damage manifests itself years after a house is constructed.
