Abstract

The kinetics of the oxidation of trans-[[[Ru.sup.IV](tmc)(O)(solv)].sup.2+] to trans-[[[Ru.sup.VI](tmc)[(O).sub.2]].sup.2+] (tmc = 1,4,8,11-tetramethyl-1,4,8,11-tetraazacyclotetradecane, a tetradentate macrocyclic tertiary amine ligand, solv = [H.sub.2]O or C[H.sub.3]CN) by Mn[O.sub.4.sup.-] is analyzed in aqueous solutions and in acetonitrile. Large deuterium and oxygen isotope effects are seen for reactions in water.
