Abstract

The presence of chondrules in the solar nebula may have resulted from electrical discharge heating. Estimates of the nebula's properties, a process for terrestrial thunderstorm electrification and some basic properties of gases should be combined in a model of electrical discharge heating for it to be effective. However, the model reveals that chondrules could not have been melted by electrical discharges. Additional information about nebular discharges can be gathered through further studies.
