Reconsider the source: implications of vanishing online citations in communication journals

The vanishing nature of online citations is a serious cause for concern as recent studies have shown that online footnotes disappear from the original source thereby undermining research veracity and replicability. Journalism educators must emphasize the historic importance of the footnote in academic journals as footnotes uphold standards of truth upon which the integrity of media disciplines is based.
