Abstract
- An assessment of the quality of services offered by for-profit (FP) and not-for-profit (NFP) hospitals is presented. Previous studies have shown a relationship between nurse staffing and quality of services. An analysis shows that case mix-adjusted registered nurse staffing was lower in FPs compared to NFPs. It was also found that a lower level of registered nurse staffing resulted in higher levels of mortality and length of stay in hospitals.
