Abstract

A study was conducted to examine the action of 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) in vitro and duplicate its effect on lipoprotein lipase (LPL) and protein phosphorylation using various chemical agents in isolated adipose tissue of male Guinea pigs. The results showed that cytochalasin B, a chemical inhibitor, exhibited an action closest to TCDD. TCDD was observed to inhibit glucose production in the absence of glucose, but stimulated protein phosphorylation in the presence of glucose. These results suggest that reduction in glucose uptake results to reduced LPL activity and increased protein phosphorylation.
