Abstract
- The French government, French media and alcohol advertisers reached an accord on the televising of foreign sporting events at stadiums that display billboards for French alcoholic products. The accord asks French alcohol producers to refrain from placing advertising at sporting events where they have no presence. The efforts by the French alcohol producers allowed them to circumvent a 1991 French law that bans any form of alcohol or tobacco advertising in France.<br />PARIS--A compromise was reached last week allowing French television stations to broadcast foreign sporting events at stadiums displaying billboards for French alcoholic beverages.
