A force to contend with: Electronic Data Systems is expanding its information-technology services across the air transport spectrum

Electronic Data Systems Corp (EDS), the information technology (IT) services unit of General Motors Corp, is poised to take on a much larger share of the air transportation and distribution business. EDS formed the Travel & Transportation Group in 1990, which generated $400 million in revenues in 1994. It also entered various strategic alliances with airlines, computer reservation systems and travel agents, giving it insight into the workings of the industry and significant leverage in marketing its services to the remainder of the air transport world.
