Abstract

The alloy compositions of [Dy.sub.0.7][Tb.sub.0.3][Fe.sub.1.95] with extra addition of B are selected in order to examine the effect of zoning on the microstructure and magnetostriction. The reustls have shown that the increase in the volume fraction of the (Tb, Dy)[Fe.sub.3] phase and the reduction in the grain orientation of the (Tb, Dy)[Fe.sub.2] are the main reasons for the large decrease in the magnetostriction of the (Tb, Dy)[Fe.sub.1.95] alloys with boron addition.
