Abstract

Experimental studies demonstrate presence of a fourth putative human Na+, K+-ATPase alpha-subunit gene, ATP1AL2, in the testis. The polypeptide sequence of the gene encodes 1028 amino acids and is 76-78% homologous to the rat Na+, K+-ATPase alpha1, alpha2 and alpha3 isoforms, with ATP1AL2 as the fourth isoform. Both rat and human testis have abundant levels of a 3.9-kb mRNA expression.
