Abstract

Yersinia pestis mutation, prepared by insertional disruption of the fur open reading frame, affects the expression of many iron-regulated proteins. These Y. pestis cells become more sensitive to bacteriocin pestin with mutations in fur. There is an increase in late log phase spontaneous nonpigmented chromosomal deletion mutants and a block in the growth of the Y. pestis fur mutant in excess of iron.
