Brewers droop and spirits are lower too

The UK brewing and spirit drinks industries have failed to outperform the UK stock market in Nov and Dec 1994. Spirit drink consumption has been affected by recession and slow recovery, which means that prices cannot easily be raised. Volume sales of beer fell in the UK by some 1% in 1994, but premium brands are performing well. There is concern that too much may be invested in pubs for the size of the market. Pubs serving food and providing other amenities will perform better than those without such amenities.
