Abstract: Analysis of the physiological effects of intravenous ouabin on left ventricular systolic function and metabolic-to-mechanical energy transfer in conscious dogs reveals the significant positive ionotropic effect of ouabin on the intact left ventricle. Ouabin enhances the myocardial performance and energetics in dogs without oxygen washing or changes in energy transfer efficiency.
