Crotylation versus propargylation: Two routes for the synthesis of the C13-C-18 fragment of the antibiotic branimycin

The stereocontrolled synthesis of vinyl iodide along two alternative routes is described. The first route has used a standard Roush crotylation protocol, whereas the second method followed an allenyl silane propargylation with unexpected stereochemical consequences.
