Abstract: Improvements in the European Economic Area (EEA) Agreement promise to reduce restrictive rules regarding the use of third-country materials in trade between European Community (EC) and European Free Trade Assn (EFTA) members. As an EFTA member that is unlikely to join the EC soon, Switzerland should try to adapt its free trade agreements with non-EFTA nations in the same manner as recent negotiations between EFTA and EC: with a low profile and sticking to technical matters.
