Forecasting load-duration curves

The problem of forecasting electricity consumption in terms of load-duration curves is discussed. A variant of a time-series method which includes Kalman filtering, smoothing and prediction is used on empirical data from New Zealand to forecast the country's electricity load curve and subsequent load-duration curve considering such factors as holidays, daylight savings and temporal cycles. This particular model can also produce confidence intervals for the forecasts of the two curves.
