Effort seeks to develop international software standards

The Joint Technical Committee 1 (JTC1) of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the Subcommittee 7 on Software Engineering Standards (SC7) of the International Electrotechnical Commission are attempting to develop practical and cost-effective international software engineering standards. JTC1 and SC7 members hope to integrate the multiple standards and conceptual models of various standard bodies to utilize these standards for a range of applications. International competition, ISO 9000 series standards and increasing quality and verification requirements necessitate US software companies' participation in these efforts.
