Abstract

The requirement of a Rab protein for the assembling of soluble N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive fusion attachment protein receptors (SNAREs) is determined by using yeast secretion mutants of the two types of SNAREs. The v-SNARE in the yeast ER-Golgi docking complex is made up of a CAAX box with lipid anchoration. The Rab proteins involved in vesicle transport docking are absent in docking complexes, indicating that these Rab proteins are also involved in the SNARE complex assembly reaction catalyzation.
