Abstract

Polymerase chain reaction, high-resolution human genetic linkage maps and automated DNA fragment-sizing strategy help conduct a human genome-wide search for type 1 diabetes susceptibility genes. IDDM1, IDDM2 and eighteen other chromosomal sites are found to be associated with diabetes mellitus. Chromosomes 11q and 6q express the genes IDDM4 and IDDM5 genes respectively.
