Abstract
- The Fur protein of Escherichia coli represses transcription from Fur-responsive genes through an iron-dependent process, similar to the genetic regulation in Campylobacter jejuni. The identification of such regulatory activity requires usage of chloramphenicol acetyltransferase reporter gene's isolation from the promoter. The isolation is performed by a synthetic fur-responsive operator. The amino acid sequences of the fur proteins of Campylobacter and Escherichia coli are identical.
