Abstract

Disasters may be caused through erros and unprofessional conduct, and they can also result from normal functioning. In order to avoid disasters, managerial control should be tightened, though large scale redesigns of systems may be needed to avoid disasters arising from normal functioning. Flexibility and communication should be encouraged, and complaints by outsiders should be given due attention. Disasters have a major impact in terms of costs and loss of morale, as well as causing deaths and injuries.
