Abstract: The various levels of memory politics in Europe are identified and illustrated through an examination of the events surrounding the commemoration of the sixtieth anniversary of the end of World War II on 9 May 2005. The reactions of the leaders of the Baltic States who were invited to the ceremony by Russia's President Vladimir Putin are analyzed in this connection.
